POINT STARTS 2022 WITH AN AWARD

Designer Christophe Pillet has received an award at Le FRENCH DESIGN Awards for the City collection he designed for the Alicante furniture brand.

City is one of three collections of outdoor furniture that Christophe Pillet has developed with POINT.

“This collection is my contemporary take on the art of Mediterranean living, which is unconnected to time. It is a universe where the sun and the earth meet”, explained the French designer during the gala at the Élysée Palace in Paris.

Under the High Patronage of the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, Le FRENCH DESIGN 100 is the only award in France that recognises the international work of its designers through 100 design projects, whether these be objects (furniture, decoration, etc.) or spaces (hotels, shops, restaurants, etc.). The jury awarding the prize is made up of an international group of design experts, including Hervè Lemoine (director of Mobilier National, acting as chairman of the jury), Deyan Sudjic (director emeritus of the Design Museum in London), Jennifer Flay (creative director of the FIAC art fair in Paris), Leila Anna Wahba (director and chief curator of the Architecture + Design Museum in Los Angeles) and Miryion Ko (director of Art and Culture at Cartier Japan), among other prestigious names. The announcement of the awards kicked off with a gala attended by the French President, after which the winners were revealed digitally over the space of a month.

This is another in a long list of awards that POINT has collected throughout its more than a century of history. In 2020, their majesties the King and Queen of Spain presented the company with the 2019 National Design Award from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities for its contribution to improving society and people’s quality of life. Previously, another of POINT’s collections –WEAVE– reaped many important international awards, such as the International Interior Design Association’s 2018 Global Excellence Awards, Gold Medal in the Ibero-American Biennial CIDI for Interior, Design and Landscape and the ADCV GOLD Award for Outdoor Furniture in 2017.

About City

A powder painted aluminium structure is the starting point for each of the pieces in this collection, which was first created in 2020. It also features arms made from teak wood from sustainably managed forests and plump, comfortable cushions. City is composed of an armchair and two- and three-seater sofas. They all exude classicism and elegance, and their cushions can be customised in terms of both prints and colours.

In addition to City, Christophe Pillet has designed two other collections for POINT: Long Island (a collection that is so well finished it could be a piece of indoor furniture) and Summer (a new take on the traditional chair that includes hand weaving techniques). Reluctant to categorise them under any specific style, Pillet explains that he was more interested in creating simple, elegant, modern pieces.

About POINT

Dubai, Mexico, Australia, Paris, London, Miami… POINT is an ambassador of Spanish design and a leading brand of outdoor furniture. The brand is present in more than a thousand contract projects worldwide, signed by prestigious interior designers and architects, and in countless homes, helping to elevate outdoor spaces to another level. A browse through its catalogue reveals around 300 products created by acclaimed national and international designers, products where tradition meets the latest technology.

A hundred years after this family business was founded, POINT’s commitment to design is still in its DNA. Its experience in furniture manufacturing and its respect for craftsmanship also continue to show through in all its pieces: each of POINT’s woven sofas involves forty hours of meticulous craftsmanship and each chair, no less than six. The innovation at the heart of the company’s creative process has enabled it to develop new materials, even patenting its own fibres, and carry out research into future materials. In 2019, the brand was awarded the National Design Award.

For decades, sustainability has been a key element at POINT. In addition to ensuring responsible consumption in its manufacturing, using recyclable materials and wood from sustainably managed forests, its own headquarters are energy self-sufficient, as they are powered by solar energy.

POINT epitomises the essence of the Mediterranean, quality of life and the art of living.
