José Pons Pedro, founder of POINT, incorporated this armchair into the first collections (1920s), adding his hallmark of design and quality. He reinforced the curves of the arms to ensure durability and introduced openwork in the backrest to visually lighten the piece.
The difficulty of the armchair lies in the fact that it is woven in the air, with no structure from the seat upwards. Its strength depends on the weave itself, which is why only expert craftsmen can elaborate it.
This design has been updated by designer Alfonso Gallego, who has turned it into a timeless piece. With this redesign, it has begun to be manufactured with Shintotex, a resistant fiber developed by POINT. Gallego defines the Alga armchair as “a piece of romantic Mediterranean style with its own identity”.
